Welcome

Our Department of Microbiology is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, and provides accurate, relevant and rapid diagnostic services, including:

• diagnostic bacteriology, mycology, virology, serology, and molecular microbiology services to Sunnybrook’s clinical programs
• monitoring of hospital-acquired infections and antibiotic-resistant organisms by our Infection Prevention and Control program 
• diagnostic microbiology and consultative services to hospitals in the community

We are leaders in our field:

• Our microbiology laboratory is one of the largest in Ontario
• We serve as a regional, provincial and national resource in clinical Microbiology, and in Infection Prevention and Control.
