About our Advanced Life Support courses
Sunnybrook's Advanced Life Support program, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), is one of the largest and most active programs of its kind in Canada.
We are the only institution in the Greater Toronto Area that offers all three of these educational Programs, providing between 65-75 courses per year. Course participants range from medical students, international medical graduates, residents and fellows to currently practicing physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and dental professionals.
The ALS program is a non-profit body within Sunnybrook. Our goal is to help course participants master the role of 'team leader' in the care of the arrested and peri-arrest patient. Our program began in the early '80s. Thousands of participants can attest to the success our program and to our professional and 'low-stress' approach to advanced life support.
Each course typically includes emergentologists, cardiologists and anesthesiologists, veteran field paramedics and ICU/CCU or emergency room nurses. We teach multiple courses each year at the Sunnybrook's Bayview campus, and we also offer courses in conjunction with Humber College at our Humber (North Campus) affiliate site.
