Welcome

Attending intensive care specialists in the Department provide care to patients who either have, or are at high risk of developing, a life-threatening disease or injury, or those who have had major surgical procedures. As part of an interdisciplinary team, we provide direct care to patients in 52 critical care beds in four Intensive Care Units and consultation services to another 10 beds in the Ross Tilley Burn Centre. We also provide 24/7 physician coverage to the Rapid Response Team.

The academic mandate of the Department includes a significant commitment to medical education at all levels of training, from medical students to critical care fellows. The Department includes several members with graduate-level training and interest in medical education.

The Department has an active research program, primarily involving clinical research projects, and has a strong record of peer-reviewed grants and publications. Many research projects actively involve residents and fellows.
