Sunnybrook is home to one of the largest prostate cancer programs in Canada. Specialists at the OCC see approximately 1,700 new prostate cancer patients each year. The Prostate Cancer Programs has highly specialized inpatient and outpatient services that include an Active Surveillance Program; Prevention, High Risk, Early Disease Surveillance (PHREDS) Prostate Clinic; Andrology Program; and a Palliative Care Program.

The team consists of about physicians including urologic oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, general practitioners in oncology, prostate pathologists, and several radiologists. There are also dedicated primary oncology nurses, radiation therapists, physicists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, basic science researchers, health outcomes, clinical trials and imaging researchers.

Research within the Prostate Cancer Program spans the entire spectrum of disease, including improvements in detection and imaging of prostate cancer; development of evidence-based nomograms for deciding whom to biopsy; improvements in surgical, radiotherapy and medical treatments; and evaluation of outcomes of all patients with prostate cancer in the entire population of Ontario. In addition to being leaders in prostate cancer education, our Prostate Team has outstanding achievements in prevention and early detection and has developed methods to determine who requires biopsies based on multiple clinical parameters and DNA testing.
