Moms are everything ♥
Yes, moms are boo-boo kissers. They are also breast cancer survivors, preemie-protectors and providers. This Mother's Day, we're celebrating moms and the courage, strength and resilience they show the world each and every day.
Watch: Why we celebrate moms
Meet the moms
Moms Negar and Natasha & son Kalen
From hiking in Machu Picchu this year, to attending Raptors’ games, these busy moms keep on the go with nine-year-old Kalen.
Kalen is a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) graduate.
Mom Felmina and daughter Kayleigh
Kayleigh joined the world at just 910 grams, but you wouldn’t guess it watching this 23-month-old toddler zip around playing hide and seek.
Kayleigh is an NICU graduate.
Mom Tricia and daughter Cali
Mom Tricia has played a role as protector and nurturer to Cali, age six. Cali has immune deficiency, which puts her at high risk of becoming very sick from viruses, and impacts her healing. This hasn’t stopped her from trying new things, including playing hockey on a local team – in fact, Cali is the only girl on her team.
Cali is an NICU graduate.
Mom Narjis and sons Zain & Mikail
“As a mom, you’ll make any sacrifice for your children. You are always hoping you make the best decisions for them, at every stage. Above all else, these are the boys that have made me ‘mommy.’”
Narjis is a nurse in Sunnybrook's NICU.
Mom Tamar and Emmett
When mom Tamar was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, her life caring for a baby and two-year-old continued, even through a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and eventually a double mastectomy and reconstruction. “My first thought was, ‘How do I get through this and not have it affect the kids?’" Now Tamar and her husband have welcomed their third child, Emmett. "Welcoming Emmett was nothing short of amazing considering that I thought I would not be able to have more children after my cancer treatment."
Mom Lyndsay and daughters Lexis & Lea
Born at 28 weeks, these two fraternal twins keep Mom Lyndsay on her toes.
Lexis and Lea are NICU graduates.
Mom Adrianne and son Wesley
Adrianne is an Odette Cancer Centre fundraiser by day, single mom by night, and all-around rock star to son Wesley.
Mom Jo-Ann with Mathias, Genevieve, Maxwell and Noah
According to her four kids, Mom is: happy, strict (in a good way), always helping, protective, smart, and it’s awesome she helps the babies (Jo-Ann is a nurse in Sunnybrook’s NICU).
