Familial cancer clinic

Our program provides genetics consultation and counselling services to the community as part of the Cancer Prevention Program at the Odette Cancer Centre. In addition, we provide risk assessment and screening recommendations to women who are at increased risk of breast cancer due to hereditary or other factors.

Our goal is to provide risk assessment of various hereditary cancer syndromes to patients and their families, with a focus on breast, ovarian and colorectal cancers. Where appropriate, we offer genetic testing together with a discussion of the medical, social, ethical and psychological benefits and limitations of this testing.

To have or not to have genetic testing is a personal decision. Our aim is to give patients the information they need to make decisions that are right for them, and to support them throughout the process.

Our team includes: oncologists, general practitioners specialized in the field of oncology, gastroenterologists, geneticists, and genetic counsellors. We also work with maternal psychologists, dietitians and others.

Physician referrals are required.
