Dr. Brian W. Gilbert CICU (C-3)

On March 10, 2011, we opened our brand new, state-of-the-art Dr. Brian W. Gilbert Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) on C-3. Named to honour the former chief of the Schulich Heart Centre, the new unit offers care to our most ill cardiac patients.

Twelve acute care beds in private rooms, equipped with separate washrooms, have been outfitted with specialized infection control equipment. Each room has a private nursing station outside it, with a window so the nurse can monitor the patient to facilitate one-on-one care.

Patients will be seen by a multidisciplinary team which may include a physiotherapist, clinical dietician, social worker, pharmacist, chaplain and a speech language pathologist.
