Mobility equipment through the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) requires the client/resident/family/significant other to select their own vendor. A vendor must be selected prior to the trial of equipment.
This is not a complete list. Additional resources may be available in your community. Further vendor listings may be found in the yellow pages under “hospital equipment and supplies”.
St. John's Rehab does not endorse nor do we accept any responsibility for the content or use of the above resources.
You are advised to “shop around” as selection, service, plans and prices may vary from vendor to vendor.
Please note that Ontario Ministry of Health sets the price of wheelchairs and seating (e.g. wheelchair cushions) so that the price for these items, as prescribed by your therapist, will be the same at all of the vendors.
These questions may be helpful when selecting a vendor for trialing and purchasing a mobility device or other equipment:
- How long does it typically take to respond to a service call?
- If my equipment needs to be taken in to be repaired/serviced, will I be provided with loaner equipment?
- Will I be charged for the use of the loaner equipment?
- If I have placed an order for equipment through your company, will I be provided with loaner equipment until my new equipment is delivered?
These questions may be helpful when selecting a vendor for renting a mobility device or other equipment:
- How much will it cost to rent the equipment?
- Will you deliver? If yes, is there a delivery fee?
- Will you pick up the equipment following the rental? If yes, is there a charge to pick up the equipment?
- If I decide to purchase the equipment, can the rental fee paid be applied to the cost?
- If there are any problems with the equipment, will you send a replacement, and how quickly will you send one? What if there is a problem during non-work hours?
- Time limit for the rental (i.e. can you rent for the day/weekend/week/month)? What if you need it longer than requested?
- What happens if they don’t have the exact equipment needed?
- Will they come and set-up the equipment?
- How quickly will the equipment be available?
- Is there insurance available if the equipment is damaged? If not, what happens?
