Awards and scholarships

Sunnybrook Health Science Centre is committed to helping our employees achieve education that would provide the foundation for inventing the future of healthcare. One of the ways to do this is to provide funding for education through the Continuing Education Support Fund (CESF). Through the CESF, employees can access two types of funding reimbursements. The first one is bursary support which covers long-term educational endeavours such as, degrees, diplomas, long-term certificates, etc. The second one is educational support which covers short-term education such as, seminars, workshops, conferences, poster presentations, short-term certificates, etc. Awards for excellence in various educational activities are:

Administrative Professionals Award

A one-time $1,000 award will be awarded once per year to two Sunnybrook employees who provide administrative support to others and are taking a degree, diploma or long-term certificate program that will advance their professional development at Sunnybrook.

Corporate Support Services Award

A $1,000 award given once per year to a Sunnybrook employee who has made a significant difference in their current role and has enhanced the reputation of Sunnybrook through academic achievement and delivery of service.

Frima Starr-Paloc Education Award

This award is named after a former director of organizational development at Sunnybrook. It is a $1,000 award given once a year to a Sunnybrook employee who is in the professional health disciplines or nursing field, enrolled in a Masters degree program level or higher, and has a work focus in either oncology or palliative or end-of-life care.

Health Professionals Grant

A $1,000 award given once a year to a Sunnybrook employee who is enrolled in a specialty certificate program or training related to the enhancement of clinical or leadership skills specific to their health discipline area. The award is intended to focus on the development of clinical excellence, promotion of interprofessional collaboration, and/or administrative or management skills within their area of practice.

Management Grant

A $1,000 award given once a year to a Sunnybrook employee who is enrolled in a specialty certificate program related to the refinement of management skills. The award is intended to focus on the development of management skills.

Peter Ellis Award

This award is named after a former CEO and president of Sunnybrook. It is a $2,500 award given once a year to a Sunnybrook employee who is enrolled in the Masters degree program level or higher at an accredited Canadian University with an emphasis on studies in the health leadership and/or executive leadership stream.

Sunnybrook Volunteer Association Award

A $2,000 award given once a year to a Sunnybrook employee who demonstrates an interest in furthering their education in one of the following areas: geriatric care, health and safety, and wellness/nutrition.
