Psychologist - St. John's Rehab  (170904)

We currently have an opportunity for a Regular Full Time Psycholoist in our Outpatient Program at the St. John's Rehab Campus. 

Summary of Duties

The psychologist is responsible for carrying out assessment and treatment programs in the Marketed Services program in coordination with the interdisciplinary team. The psychologist will carry out all best practices in relation to psychological clinical care. Conduct clinical and associated administrative work within a third party funded clinic which provides active, multidisciplinary rehabilitation for clients who have sustained complex musculoskeletal trauma, amputations and burns resulting from workplace or motor vehicle accidents. Assessment and treatment of SJR inpatient is on an as needed basis. The psychologist will also be responsible to conduct third party independent evaluations (IEs).


  1. Diagnosis of psychological disorders utilizing clinical interview and appropriate testing material.
  2. Interventions/Treatments of patients with a focus on cognitive rehabilitation.
  3. Provide education to patients, families and team members to assist in optimizing rehabilitation outcomes.
  4. Contribute to team and patient treatment decisions regarding patient care, return to work, and discharge planning.
  5. Utilization of evidence based outcome measures with all patients to track success within the program.
  6. Ability to conduct third party independent evaluations (IE’s), independently and unsupervised.
  7. Document assessment and therapeutic progress in the patient’s medical record within hospital guidelines and contractual obligations. Discuss treatment progress with members of the therapeutic team. Complete necessary reports for third party payers within contractual guidelines.
  8. Complete all program specific data entry requirements (e.g. billing information, workload statistics) in an accurate and timely manner.
  9. Participate in program planning, quality initiatives, evaluation of the Back on Track and WSIB programs.
  10. Participate in team building as a member of the interdisciplinary team as needed.
  11. Attend and participate in staff, team, and other meetings necessary for the effective and efficient delivery of service to patients.
  12. Conform to all applicable legal and ethical requirements.
  13. Other reasonable duties as assigned.
  14. Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of employees, patients, Sisters, students, volunteers, physicians and visitors including but not limited to: compliance with the safety standards of the Hospital and applicable legislation.
  15. Conduct their work in a safe manner; prevention, identification and reporting of safety issues and problems; taking corrective action, where possible; attendance at safety meetings / training / updates in accordance with the Hospital’s standards.

  1. PhD in Psychology from a recognized university.
  2. Registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
  3. Minimum two years’ experience in hospital, community, or other patient-focused environments.
  4. Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in psychological assessment and treatment methods.
  5. Ability to foster learning and work in a regulated and non-regulated health professional environment.
  6. Ability to apply behavioural principles to rehabilitation programs, and set functional objectives and measurable goals.
  7. Demonstrate professional judgment and interpersonal skills in dealing with the patients their families, other health care team members and the community.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  9. Good time management skills.
  10. French speaking at an intermediate level is preferred.
  11. Evidence of good attendance, a satisfactory performance history and a discipline-free record required.
