Medical Secretary - Department of Medicine Partnership

We have a permanent part-time opportunity for a Medical Secretary in the Department of Medicine Partnership. The workdays are: Tuesday and Thursday with the option of either Monday or Wednesday as the third work day. The medical secretary will facilitate the delivery of patient care by providing a high level of support and assistance to patients and the staff Physicians pertaining to clinic related issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for patient registration and reception, organizes patient appointments, and maintains the electronic patient records
  • Reminds patients of upcoming appointments using the mode of communication preferred by the patient (phone or email)
  • Coordinates patient referrals and ensures all necessary information is provided with new referrals
  • Answers and screens telephone calls, interacts with hospital staff, facilitates patient requests for appointments, reports, records, responds to all inquiries or re-directs as appropriate
  • Organizes meetings, prepares and maintains relevant documents for a variety of administrative and educational activities
  • Organizes, modifies and maintains confidential documents
  • Assists with OHIP billing

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a medical secretarial training program, with preferably 3 years experience as a medical secretarial/administrative assistant
  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, medical transcription, and MS office
  • Strong computer literacy skills as we will be working with electronic medical records
  • Ability to keyboard/type at the rate of 50 wpm
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated patient focused care, reliability and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, high level of professionalism
