Change lives this holiday season
This holiday season, we have the perfect gift idea for you. A gift that will change the lives of many husbands, wives, moms, dads, boyfriends, girlfriends, and even the “tiniest” of lives.
A gift that you cannot find in store. You can pay it forward and give a gift that makes a difference this holiday season. Make a gift in someone’s name and we will mail or email your recipient a card.
Your gift will help parents like Julia and Todd Smeed. Their twins were born so early, so tiny and so sick that the new parents were terrified they would lose them.
For the first two months of their newborns’ lives, Julia and Todd practically lived at Sunnybrook.
Now, with their babies back home and healthy, they’re enjoying the normal things that people take for granted, like cooking in their own kitchen or taking a stroll outside – as a family.
Your gift to Sunnybrook this holiday season, will impact people like Brendan Beloniak. After suffering from third-degree burns to 30 per cent of his body and fourth-degree burns to his legs, Brendan spent four days in an induced coma at Sunnybrook’s Ross Tilley Burn Centre while his family kept a constant vigil.
After a month at Sunnybrook, Brendan spent the next seven as an outpatient at Sunnybrook’s St. John’s Rehab, where he credits the staff with motivating and working with him so that he has no mobility problems.
He’s back to snowboarding, cycling, kayaking and hockey. In fact, Brendan’s experience led him to alter his career plans: today he’s a paramedic.
Your gift will support active women like Betsy McGregor. In 2000 Betsy was preparing to join an expedition to Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, the tallest peak in the Americas, when acute pain in her right hip led her to Sunnybrook’s specialist.
In preparing for a hip replacement surgery, Sunnybrook’s Holland Centre’s pre-operative workshop with nurses, physiotherapist, occupational therapists and former patients, were valuable in keeping her confident and ready for the procedure.
Nine months later, Betsy hiked 350 kilometres of the Camino pilgrimage across Spain and resumed her mountain leadership adventures in Wales.
Next, she plans on taking up fencing.
