Concussion

Introduction

Usually caused by a blow to the head, concussions range in severity from mild to severe, but they all share one common factor - they temporarily interfere with the way your brain works. They can affect memory, judgment, reflexes, speech, balance and coordination.

While most concussions get better on their own, some blows to the head can cause more serious injuries. You should seek medical advice if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Prolonged headache or dizziness
  • Vision disturbances
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Impaired balance
  • Prolonged memory loss
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Loss of smell or taste
