Patient relations course teaches healthcare professionals the importance of the patient voice

A first-of-its-kind course focused on advancing the patient experience in the healthcare system will be offered this fall at Ryerson University’s Chang School of Continuing Education.

This professional development course is designed for healthcare practitioners committed to advancing the patient experience in their professional settings, while optimizing their leadership and planning skills.

Developed alongside health and patient-relations experts at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, this course provides students with the unique opportunity to learn from first-hand patient relations experiences, giving students an insiders look at the leading patient engagement practices used at one of Canada’s largest academic teaching hospitals.

The Leading and Planning for Patient Experience course will also equip students with the foundations integral in providing patient relations and front-line leadership. This includes conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques, complaint management strategies, as well as the management and coaching skills required for building front-line competency on the job.

Classes offered through the Leading and Planning for Patient Experience course include:

  • The Healthcare Systems
  • Advanced Leadership and Management
  • Fundamentals of Project Management
  • Conflict Resolution in Community Services
