Conavi Medical Inc.

Dr. Brian CourtneyConavi Medical Inc. is a medical device company that develops, manufactures, sells and supports technologies to help guide minimally invasive procedures. It is commercializing technologies initially invented at Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) by Dr. Brian Courtney, a scientist and interventional cardiologist at SRI. Conavi’s lead product in its commercialization pipeline is the Foresight ICE System. It is the first catheter-based ultrasound system capable of providing both 2-D and 3-D ultrasound images of cardiac anatomy around the circumference of the catheter’s tip. The system, which has been approved for sale in the U.S., includes the dual display Conavi Hummingbird imaging console and the Foresight ICE catheter. These products were engineered for use during minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures such as ablations and other procedures that may require access to targeted regions of the heart.

Conavi employs more than 35 highly skilled personnel at a 12,000 square foot ISO-13485-certified facility in Toronto. The company's focus is to provide innovative image-guidance technologies for minimally invasive treatments with an emphasis on cardiovascular procedures.

Sponsors instrumental to the initial and ongoing development of the ICE system are the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, Health Technology Exchange, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Ontario Centres of Excellence, and Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation.
