Mind, Body, and Pain: Introduction to Chronic Pain Self-Management

This online workshop (4-week long, 2hr per week) is focused on supporting those experiencing chronic pain by providing education, developing skills, increasing community support and improving confidence for self-management of chronic pain.
Each session is divided into different themes (Mind, Body, and Social). These sessions will include an educational component, learning practical skills/ strategies/ techniques, community resources, and other supplementary material based on each theme. Interprofessional healthcare providers will be involved in the group (Pharmacists, Social Workers, Yoga Therapist, Dietitians, etc.). Additionally, this group has a strong emphasis on goals, preparation, planning, and connection to other resources.
Time: 2–4 p.m. – 15-min break and 15-min Q+A
- 1st Session (March 9th) – Intro
- 2nd Session (March 16th) – Body
- 3rd Session (March 23rd) – Mind
- 4th Session (March 30th) – Social
- 5th Session (April 6th) – Optional Session
Who can attend: Anyone experiencing chronic pain. Must have access to computer and internet.
Materials: Information with worksheets, tip sheet, other programs, and resources.
Evidenced-based techniques to help manage chronic pain will be introduced such as:
- Relaxation techniques
- Visualization
- Guided imagery
- Pleasant activity scheduling
- Activity-rest cycling
- Meditation and mindfulness
- Cognitive behavioural
- Therapy techniques
- Goal setting
- and more
