Sunnybrook hosts a series of lectures and workshops involving academic and industry medtech professionals, CEOs and thought-leaders with real-world advice on medtech innovation and commercialization. The lectures and workshops address the fundamental aspects from developing an idea to commercial success, enabling participants to gain knowledge of the role of intellectual property management, regulatory pathways, reimbursement mechanisms, funding models and business strategy in the successful commercialization of new medical device technologies.
The first workshop of this series comprises two 60-minute interactive sessions with leading medical technology and healthcare innovation experts who will share their views of the current issues and future challenges in the medical device technology industry.
In the first session, our panelists will discuss and debate the hottest issues and trends that are shaping the medical device industry in Canada. Attendees will be able to get unparalleled insight into the current state of the medical device industry and the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
In the second session, Dr. Brian Courtney will discuss key points in starting up a medical device company, drawing reference to his experience in co-founding 3 such companies over the past 20 years. Topics will include team-formation, idea generation, patenting, fundraising, challenges and rewards.
