Great ideas don’t always translate into commercial success. While identifying the 'killer app' is a near impossibility, there are criteria that can be indicative of the likelihood of a positive outcome. In the first part of this session, Drishi Vilku will discuss some early indicators that should be considered before investing significant time and effort into developing a medical technology, shedding light on the technology transfer process at research hospitals and how technology transfer and commercialization managers screen, assess and evaluate inventions and help researchers and inventors identify commercialization opportunities and challenges.
In the second part of this session, Steve Leonard will discuss the process of prior art search and FTO analysis. The session will include a hands-on exercise, which will enable participants develop familiarity with the patent search process as well as recognize issues surrounding invention and ownership.
