Feast for the Ancestors: A Sacred Fire

When: Wednesday, November 2, 2022 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Where: D-Wing Courtyard on Bayview Campus - Bayview Campus, 2075 Bayview Ave, Toronto, ON M4N 3M5

This sacred fire will be lit in celebration and honour of each of our ancestors. We will gather and remember them.

The fire is our connection to the Spirit World.

Please bring a small piece of food that helps you feel connected to the ancestor you wish to honour. At the sacred fire, you will be invited to say your ancestor’s name, place the food on a spirit plate, and place a piece of tobacco in the fire. Tobacco is a sacred plant often used in Indigenous ceremony. It will be provided to you at the fire.

Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. The ceremony will be led by Leonard Benoit, Regional Indigenous Cancer Patient Navigator for Toronto Central. Hear a teaching from traditional fire keeper Jake Kakegamic, drumming by Allen Okitchiquo, and Strong Women’s song performed by Joanna Diindiisikwe Simmons on the hand drum.

Light catering will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
