Inform the future of clinical trials in surgery

We are looking for patients, caregivers and community members to help us inform the future of clinical trials in surgery at Sunnybrook and beyond!

Partners will work together and with our team of clinicians, medical trainees and policy-makers to prioritize and develop future clinical trial questions and help to ensure that research will be relevant to patient care and will contribute to better outcomes.

The commitment

Phase I: Orientation and prioritization meeting for Patient Partners
On Wednesday, May 15, 2019 (Early evening – time/location TBD) Partners will be invited to attend a meeting where there will be a brief orientation to clinical trials and a priority generation exercise. Dinner will be provided.

Phase II: Consensus Workshop - Optional
Partners who have attended the prioritization meeting have the option of also joining a larger workshop on Wednesday, May 22nd from 12-4pm at The Main Dining Room of The University Club of Toronto, 380 University Ave.

At this consensus workshop, Partners will come together with our team of clinicians, medical trainees and policy-makers. Informed by preliminary discussions with patients, we will present and discuss several potential clinical trial questions (e.g., prevention of post-operative delirium, infections), and have brainstorming sessions to help refine and develop the randomized controlled trials that we will conduct as part of a program called IMPACTS (The Innovative, Multicenter, Patient-centered Approach to Clinical Trials in Surgery).

Lunch will be provided.
