Submit a video in celebration of our 10th anniversary

Sunnybrook’s Centre for Youth Bipolar Disorder (CYBD) is very proud and excited to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! CYBD is a fully integrated clinical, research, educational, and advocacy program that was founded in 2009 to address the increasing need for sub-specialized services, research, and knowledge translation relevant to adolescent bipolar disorder (BD).

Our mission: To improve outcomes for teenagers with BD through cutting-edge research, evidence-based treatment, education, and advocacy.

We are reaching out to you—our patient, family, and community partners—to help us bring meaning to our 10-year anniversary. As part of our celebration, we are inviting your messages of support in order to help us spread the word about CYBD and youth bipolar disorder. Whether you are a patient, family member, colleague, or our broader community, we would greatly value and appreciate if you would consider our request for individuals, families, or groups to submit a short 30-60 second video with one or more of the following:

  • A statement of celebration and/or words of encouragement for CYBD’s 10th year anniversary and the impact it’s had on the field of youth BD.
  • A testimonial of how CYBD has impacted you and/or your family and where you are today.
  • A description of what our motto, “heart bipolar," means to you.

By submitting a video, you will not only help us celebrate our 10th Anniversary, but will help bring attention and awareness to this important topic and join us in celebrating the strength and resiliency of our patients and families. More about CYBD:

CYBD is entirely philanthropically funded and does not have hospital or provincial funding for clinical staff. We have therefore leveraged the research aspect of the program to provide exceptionally comprehensive and evidence-informed diagnostic assessments—an approach that has received national accolades. We also conduct clinical trials of novel treatments, including behavioural, pharmaceutical, and nutritional approaches. The synergy between clinical and research efforts enables clinical care that is both informed by and contributing to empirical evidence, ensuring that CYBD actualizes its mission.

Highlights of the past decade:

  • A team of two in 2009 has expanded to our current 24 person team.
  • A built-from-scratch clinical research program that secured its first grant for just over $100,000 from the Heart & Stroke Foundation in 2010, and now carries nearly $3 million in grants from the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Brain Canada, the University of Toronto, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
  • Our first graduate student started in 2012. Since then we have become a platform for training the future generation of researchers in youth bipolar disorder, with seven graduate students, international post-doctoral fellows, and early-career youth psychiatrists.
  • Active Facebook and Twitter accounts and a revamped website enable us to lead education and advocacy efforts–sharing and translating reliable information focused on youth bipolar disorder.

Thank you in advance for your support and contributing to our celebration!
