Ovarian cancers

We provide assessments and counselling for individuals at high-risk. We offer expertise in the management of early stage and advanced ovarian cancer. We offer advanced surgical techniques, and provide intraperitoneal chemotherapy for optimally debulked ovarian cancers, and are involved in clinical trials with the latest therapies.

Patients see many clinicians at the same time at our multidisciplinary and inter-professional Gynecological Cancer clinic for coordinated, expedited care and assessment, and to discuss an individualized treatment plan.

Risk assessment

We provide assessments and genetic counseling for individuals at high risk for ovarian cancer, in our Cancer Genetics and High Risk Program and BRCA Clinic.

Diagnosis and treatment options

» Newly diagnosed with pelvic mass suspicious for cancer

  • We offer multidisciplinary clinical assessment that includes expert clinical assessment and radiology assessment using ultrasound, CT (computed tomography) scans, and if needed, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans. Based on this assessment, we will discuss whether surgery by a gynecologic oncology surgeon is recommended.
  • Surgery includes an assessment of a mass highly suspicious for cancer under the microscope by an expert in gynecologic pathology during the surgery, and if found to be cancer, an appropriate surgical procedure with comprehensive surgical staging can take place all in one surgery.
  • For patients who meet the clinical criteria, we can perform minimally invasive surgery with comprehensive surgical staging and with the potential for patients to go home the day of surgery.
  • We offer expertise in fertility-sparing surgery for young women with certain types of early stage ovarian cancer. We collaborate with fertility specialists to maximize a patient’s chance of retaining fertility.
