Filling Prescriptions To Get Easier

May 6, 2009

Health and Long-Term Care Minister David Caplan make announcement at Sunnybrook regarding emote dispensing across the province.

Health and Long-Term Care Minister David Caplan made an announcement at Sunnybrook on May 6th proposing to make it more convenient for patients to get their drug prescriptions filled by allowing remote dispensing across the province. Legislation to be introduced in the coming days would, if passed, amend the Drug and Pharmacies Regulations Act and the Ontario Drug Benefit Act to allow prescriptions to be filled without the pharmacist being physically present.

Since the summer of 2008, Sunnybrook has taken the lead role in assessing a medication dispensing system at the Bayview campus, in this case, a system called PharmaTrust, developed by PCA Services.
Since the pilot of this technology began, the service has been received positively by both staff and patients.

The system is currently located adjacent to the Family Practice Clinic waiting room on A1.
