Education Week celebrates teaching and learning
Sunnybrook celebrated all aspects of teaching and learning Oct. 7 to Oct. 10 during its second annual Education Week.
Students, residents, staff, teachers and patients were recognized for their contributions to Sunnybrook's commitment as an academic health sciences centre.
"The daily activities of Education Week demonstrate Sunnybrook's commitment to teaching and learning," says Dr. Ken Shulman, Interim VP, Education.
On Oct. 7, Dr. Mike Evans, known for his YouTube videos and Medical School for the Public, visited to discuss patient engagement in the digital age. An expert panel explored the risks and rewards of online patient and family education, and Sunnybrook's MyChart team presented on the future of the online patient record system. More than100 patients, family members and staff attended.
On Oct. 8, we celebrated the 4,000+ learners that come to Sunnybrook each year. Students, residents and fellows were treated to a well-deserved networking lunch break and team-building activity, as well as a short talk from Dr. Vikas Bansal, Holland Centre hospitalist and University of Toronto alumnus.
On Oct. 9, we celebrated the educators of Sunnybrook on Teacher Appreciation Day. Staff, students and patients were invited to send an "e-apple of thanks" to influential Sunnybrook teachers and colleagues who have helped them learn and grow. More than 1,430 e-cards were sent. The e-cards are still available at www.sunnybrook.ca/teacher-appreciation.
On Oct. 10, Sunnybrook welcomed members of the healthcare community for the 2nd Annual Sunnybrook Education Conference: Digital Learning. This full-day conference provided an opportunity to learn from leading experts, share best practices and network with other champions of education. More than 210 people registered for the event.
"We are so pleased to see a broad range of professionals from Sunnybrook and other institutions interested in the changing face of education," Dr. Shulman said. "It is our hope that the conference and Education Week reaffirmed our health-care community's passion for teaching and learning."
