Toronto, ON, CA Posted: 3/3/2022 3:15:08 PM

We currently have two Regular Full-time opportunities for Medical Physicists in the Medical Physics Department at the Bayview Campus.

Summary of Duties

The Medical Physics Department at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre / Odette Cancer Centre (OCC) is adding two permanent full-time positions for qualified medical physicists.

The OCC is a comprehensive cancer centre whose Radiation Treatment Program (RTP) serves almost 7500 new patients per year. The fifty person medical physics department comprises twenty-four medical physicists, five physics associates, five mechanical technologists, six electronics technologists, four physics IT personnel, two administrative assistants, and physics residents and graduate students. In the next two years we will commission a new external beam treatment planning system and replace four of our thirteen linacs. The RTP’s implementation of MR-based radiotherapy is supported by its MR-linac and three MRI-simulators. The medical physics department provides specialized support for a dedicated MR-guided brachytherapy suite for extensive programs in both HDR and LDR brachytherapy and a busy Gamma Knife program, in addition to external beam operations.

Clinical duties include: acceptance and commissioning of equipment; development and implementation of new technologies and techniques; physics support for all services offered with in the RTP; consultation with radiation therapists and oncologists; quality improvement; and participation in clinical site teams.

The successful candidate will be required to seek an academic appointment at the University of Toronto Department of Radiation Oncology (UTDRO), and will participate in UTDRO’s CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program and the Radiation Oncology Residency Program. Academic appointments within other departments at the University of Toronto and at Ryerson University are possible, as is appointment to the Sunnybrook Research Institute

Qualifications/Skills

Candidates must be eligible for certification as a qualified medical physicist in Canada. Candidates must have superior leadership and communication skills and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of a transdisciplinary team. Medical physicists who excel in project management, quality improvement, change management, research, and teaching are encouraged to apply.

This is an excellent opportunity to work at a large academic centre as part of a team of diverse professionals who share patient-centered goals. Toronto is the most multiculturally diverse city in the world, and is a centre for commerce, arts, academia and information technology.
