We currently have a Temporary Full-time (until approx. December 2022) opportunity for a Occupational Therapy Assistant/ Physiotherapy Assistant in the Complex Malignant Hematology department at our Bayview Campus.

Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days, 8 hrs, As per schedule

Summary of Duties

The Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) participates with the

Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist in planning and delivering care for assigned patients and performs appropriate therapeutic activities as directed by the supervising therapist to provide a safe, secure environment for patients. Participates in continuing professional development activities including the provision of clinical and educational in-services that fosters ongoing learning, professionalism, interprofessional collaborations, and best practices.

Maintains workload measurement data and documentation in appropriate timeframes according to the standards of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Participation of supervision of OTA/PTA students on an ongoing basis. Is a resource; for the education of interprofessional students as required. Is a resource for; staff, students, and other health care providers related to occupational therapy/physiotherapy and equipment. Participates on appropriate committees pertaining to the operation of the unit and participates in discipline-specific activities within the Integrated Community Medicine at Sunnybrook.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Possession of Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant Certificate
  • Previous experience with geriatric clients would be an asset
  • Ability to work effectively and therapeutically in an acute care environment required
  • Ability to function in an interprofessional setting
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of equipment and hygiene principles
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
