Mechanical Shop Supervisor - Medical Physics - Regular Full-time (221480)

We currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Mechanical Shop Supervisor in the Medical Physics at our Bayview Campus.

Weekdays: Days, 8 hrs, As per schedule

Summary of Duties

  • Supervise and co-ordinate mechanical engineering services, staffing, and scheduling at the Odette Cancer Centre
  • Supervise and undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair activities for medical linear accelerators and associated systems. Troubleshoot and assess equipment malfunction and perform emergency repairs and general repairs
  • Organize workload, supervise and assess staff, manage supplies and materials, and monitor budgets within the mechanical shop
  • Design, prototype, and fabricate equipment for clinical, quality control, and research purposes, with design requirements set in consultation medical physicists, radiation oncologists, and radiation
  • Utilize advanced 3D modeling software to design and fabricate components and assemblies to satisfy project requirements; use CNC equipment for fabrication
  • Install and calibrate laser systems for patient positioning

Qualifications/Skills

  • Requires successful completion of a recognized Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma and/or equivalent at the community college level and/or Licensed Machinist with additional seven years’ related practical/machine shop experience
  • Demonstrated advanced competencies with respect to: mechanical aptitude, mechanical design/creativity, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Computer Aided Machining (CAM), CNC Machining, manual machining and machine shop skills
  • Managerial and leadership skills and experience
  • Demonstrated competencies with respect to: computer literacy, radiation safety & measurement, hydraulics, electrical knowledge, welding, soldering, general safety, report writing, and manual dexterity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and comprehension
  • Well-developed organizational, prioritization and time management skills to meet multiple
  • Familiarity with radiation safety and infection prevention
  • Familiarity with DMG Mori CLX 350, Maho MH 600 E2, and general tool room equipment
