TITLE: Research Assistant

Status: Temporary Casual

DEPARTMENT: Sunnybrook Research institute

PLATFORM: Physical Sciences

REPORTING TO: Elizabeth David

BASIC FUNCTION: This is a casual (2 days/week, flexibility required). The candidate will be responsible for the clinical aspects of the Focused Ultrasound clinical trial - fibroid ablation project, including ethics oversight, and all patient related activities and coordination.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for managing ongoing Focused Ultrasound (FUS) clinical trial, with an emphasis on patient related activities and coordination.
  • Responsible for patient retention, and ongoing study related procedures/activities
  • Responsible for training new research personnel, as needed
  • Assisting Principal Investigator in preparation and submission of ethics applications and educational materials as needed
  • Interactions with sponsor
  • Ensure all trials are carried out in accordance with research institute standards and infection prevention control guidelines

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree and certifications, with minimum of 1 years’ experience in clinical trial coordination and patient interaction.
  • Experience in the field of Focused Ultrasound or tumor ablation, preferred
  • Experience with regulatory bodies and institutions (e.g. Health Canada, FDA, Research Ethics Board)
  • Work with clinical collaborators in cooperation with Scientist/Supervisor
  • Have proven skilled technical qualifications needed to support the supervisors' research activities.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills: ability to listen and communicate, sensitivity to the needs to a team approach to research, and ability to deal with situations with diplomacy.
  • Working knowledge of general-purpose computer software (including, but not limited to Excel, MS Word, Power point, Statistical software, Financial Systems)
  • Ability to set priorities successfully to coordinate workflow around grant deadlines and grant applications

In addition, the individual is expected to:

Participate in supervisor’s ongoing research activities, including other projects as they are proposed and executed.

Work and observe Hospital and department rules and regulations, policies, procedures, practices, safety procedures and current legislation, in particular the Human Rights Code regarding discrimination and harassment.

Ensure the confidentiality of patient, employee, graduate student and Hospital information at all times.

Work cooperatively and constructively with the other members of SRI staff.

Perform the above functions in a manner, which reflects the Hospital philosophy and mission of service, while promoting and maintaining good public relations with patients, visitors and Hospital staff.
