Research Technician - Sunnybrook Research Institute (06232022)

We are a fast-paced and dynamic academic lab at Sunnybrook Research Institute that focuses on different aspects of developmental immunology and stem cell biology. Our team consists of undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs, and research associates. We have collaborations with both academic labs and biotech companies. A temporary full-time position is available in our laboratory for a Research Technician with a salary range of $38,000 to $45,000. The successful candidate will have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree with experience in standard tissue culture and molecular biology techniques. New grads are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
  • Tissue culture: Culture cell lines and mammalian primary cells.
  • Prepare solutions for the lab including tissue culture media.
  • Conduct a variety of experimental tasks in a molecular-cellular biology intensive lab.
  • Maintain inventory of lab stock including chemicals, consumables, cells and plasmids.
  • Processing of donated blood.
  • Genotyping.
  • Working on occasional weekends will be required.

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a science discipline.
  • Previous hands-on scientific research experience is necessary.
  • Ability to operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Previous experience in tissue culture is essential and work with human pluripotent stem cells would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of flow cytometry would be an important asset
  • Experience in small animal handling is an asset.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail: able to follow experimental protocol.
  • You are required to be a responsive and responsible individual, have strong communication skills, accurate record-keeping, and good computer skills.
