Plastic Surgery Clinical Research Associate – Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

The Sunnybrook Plastic Surgery Division, affiliated with the University of Toronto, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery is looking for a Clinical Research Associate, reporting Dr. Jana Dengler hand and peripheral nerve surgeon.

Status: One year contract-End of Contract- renewal opportunity
Monday to Friday (7.5 hours per day- Option to work remotely)

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-5 years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of bachelor’s degree, relevant graduate level
    course work (including methodological coursework) and experience
  • Research experience in a clinical/healthcare setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of REB submission and database maintenance is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research regulations and guidelines, including ICH/GCP guidelines, Tri-Council
    Policy Statement, PHIPA and PIPEDA Privacy legislation, Declaration of Helsinki, FDA CFR and Health
    Canada Regulations is required
  • Adherence to relevant hospital data requirements and privacy regulations is require
  • Proven organizational skills with attention to detail is required
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks/meeting project deadlines and work independently under limited supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including track record of publishing in medical peer-reviewed
    journals
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, utilize tact and maintain confidentiality
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team is required
  • Consciousness of the clinical research environment requiring the highest professional integrity is required
  • Demonstrated competence working with vulnerable patient populations is preferred
  • Strong computer skills and competence with Microsoft programs including PowerPoint, Word, Excel is required
  • Proficiency in electronic databases, including PubMed, OVID, MEDLINE, EMR-Accuro keeping accurate
    records of patient information

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 70% of work time will involve Research Activities (include but are not limited to):
  • REB application, including consent form development, renewal and amendment tracking
  • Study recruitment, obtaining informed consents, managing enrollment and documentation according to study
    requirements
  • Monitoring and collecting clinical data
  • Performing qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis
  • Validate quality of data elements / data editing and statistical analyses
  • Preparation, including writing/editing study protocols, literature reviews, presentations, abstracts, manuscripts,
    grants etc
  • Develop and maintain research databases including up-to-date database of ORs
  • Assist in developing Digital Education
  • 30% of work time will involve Managerial Activities (include but are not limited to):
  • Facilitate student research–guiding through REB process
  • Data management and communication with statisticians
  • Study budget tracking and reporting
  • Finance reimbursements for investigators, students
  • Management of annual attestation of SRI investigators
  • Comply with relevant training requirements
  • Ensuring staff /students have proper research training (ICH GCP Guidelines) and documented according to
    regulation
  • Ensuring research personnel adherence to Sunnybrook privacy requirements
  • Liaison with study sponsors for recruitment, training, documentation, regulatory roles
  • Management of delegation logs and other mandatory requirements across studies
  • Clinical trial registry and maintenance/update of registered studies
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in particular coinvestigators and collaborators
  • Attend/participate in investigator meetings as needed
  • Co-ordinate regular meetings with surgeons as required and keeping surgeons informed on status of all research studies and assignments
  • Research website maintenance
