Occupational Therapist - Trauma Clinic and C5 Unit - Regular Part-Time (210638)

We currently have a Regular Part -Time (0.5 FTE) opportunity for an Occupational Therapist in the Trauma Clinic and C5 Unit Department at our Bayview Campus.

Hours of Work: Tuesday, Thursday, Alternate Fridays 8hrs (with flexibility); As per Schedule

Sunnybrook has an exciting opportunity in the Tory Trauma Program for an experienced occupational therapist to be part of the new Trauma Clinic. This OT will work flexibly with the C5 trauma unit OTs to provide consult in the Trauma Clinic for patients who have been discharged from inpatient services and are returning for follow-up care as well as on the inpatient trauma unit.

Summary of Duties:

· Collaborate with patients and family to assess and improve occupational performance

· As part of interprofessional team, provide person-centred assessments and interventions, including recommendations for follow-up as required [i.e. Home Care Program, community or rehabilitation resources] for both the C5 inpatient unit and the outpatient Trauma clinic.

· Actively participates in inter-professional team activities such as team meetings, clinical rounds, team huddles and quality improvement initiatives

· Act as an occupational therapy expert resource for staff, students, and other healthcare providers

· Maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development

· Seek opportunities for involvement in practice-based research and engage in knowledge translation through evidence-based practice and implementing best practices

· Participate in profession-specific and interprofessional activities in support of the Sunnybrook Occupational Therapy service and the Tory Trauma Program

· Participate in the supervision and education of occupational therapy students on an ongoing basis, and in support of Sunnybrook’s full affiliation with the University of Toronto

· Practice in accordance with regulatory body (COTO) standards for practice

Qualifications/Skills

Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required

  • Membership in CAOT or OSOT preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience required, with preference for an OT who has experience in private, community and inpatient settings
  • Experience working with patients who present with complex health issues, including multi-system traumas, neurological and orthopaedic trauma presentation required
  • Strong cognitive assessment experience required, including screening for behavioural and/or emotional difficulties and providing patient education about recovery
  • Working knowledge of auto insurance/ WSIB legislation and community-based programs
  • Flexibility to work in the clinic or unit setting, depending on patient and team need
  • Hand therapy and splinting experience preferred
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Commitment to clinical excellence and use of Best Practices
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem-solve discharge based on assessment results
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care approach and principles
  • Ability to demonstrate reflective practice
