Speech-Language Pathologist - Veteran’s Centre - Temporary Full-Time  (222625)

We currently have a Temporary Full-Time (until approx. June 2023) opportunity for a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Veteran’s Centre located at our Bayview Campus.

Hours of Work:

Weekdays, Days, 8 hrs; as per schedule

Summary of Duties

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has an opportunity for a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide services to residents of Sunnybrook Veterans Centre and patients on the Palliative Care Unit. The majority of the caseload will be dedicated to providing swallowing services, however, communication services are also required. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with interprofessional teams to provide evidence-informed best practice.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assess, plan, implement and monitor swallowing and communication services for residents in the Veterans Centre and palliative care patients in collaboration with the interprofessional team
  • Evaluate SLP interventions using the principles of evidence- informed practice
  • Act as a resource to families and the interpofessional team in the Veterans Centre
  • Maintain and upgrade skills and knowledge through continuing education and seek opportunities for knowledge dissemination
  • Maintain resident records, workload measurement and MDS statistics in accordance with facility and professional standards
  • Participate in clinical and interprofessional education activities in support of the Graduate Department of Speech- Language Pathology at the University of Toronto
  • Participate in Veterans Centre and hospital-wide meetings, committees and planning as required

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current CASLPO registration
  • Previous experience working with elderly population
  • Experience with dysphagia assessment and management essential
  • Experience with video fluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing preferred
  • Experience or interest working with individuals at end-of-life preferred
  • Experience in the clinical education of health care professional, providing presentations and in-services is preferred
  • Excellent communication and time management skills and ability to work collaboratively as a member of interprofessional teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain and upgrade skills and knowledge through continuing education
