Occupational Therapist - Ambulatory Rehabilitation Hand Therapy Program - Prorated Temporary Full Time  (222490)

We currently have a Prorated Temporary Full Time (0.8 FTE; until approx. April 2023) opportunity for an Occupational Therapist in the Ambulatory Rehabilitation – Hand Therapy Program at our Bayview campus.

Hours of Work:

Weekdays: Days, 4hrs and 8hrs; As per schedule

Summary of Duties

  • We are currently seeking an occupational therapist with expertise in Hand Therapy who has strong clinical and splinting skills to provide services to patients.
  • You will be responsible for providing care to patients with acute musculoskeletal conditions, which may include tendon injuries/reconstructions, peripheral nerve injuries, and fractures.
  • Your role will include providing assessment and treatment with respect to hand and upper limb rehabilitation. This includes splint fabrication, providing treatment, exercise prescription and progression of exercises.
  • Our clinical practice is primarily OHIP-funded, with a smaller component of WSIB and HCAI clientele. We treat in a one-on-one model with quality of care and education in home exercises/self-treatment as a focus. You will work in partnership with the other therapists and the surgeons to ensure that our patients achieve their best possible outcome.
  • As part of our academic health sciences centre, you will participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing professional development activities that foster ongoing learning, professionalism, inter-professional collaboration and best practices in occupational therapy/physiotherapy. You will act as a resource to occupational therapy students on an ongoing basis, in support of Sunnybrook’s full affiliation with the University of Toronto


  • Master’s degree or regulatory body approved equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and practice in accordance with Standards for Practice.
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) designation.
  • Minimum five (5) years clinical experience working with upper extremity and hand injuries required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with upper extremity splinting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care.
  • Superior ability to manage multiple tasks and problem-solve to determine priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent ability to work independently, and to collaborate as part of a team with other therapists and surgeons.
  • Well-developed communication skills, and strong ability to prepare cogent written reports in a timely fashion.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong professionalism, demonstrated in team building skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Ability to demonstrate reflective practice.
