The Medical Secretary provides medical secretarial support services. Duties include booking and scheduling, typing correspondence, setting up patient appointments and tests, responding to enquiries, entering data in databases, assisting clinical staffs with patient care, and setting up and maintaining files. Some billing may be required.


  • Requires successful completion of a two (2) year Medical Secretarial program/diploma at the community college level plus a minimum of two (2) years related practical experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in booking necessary diagnostic tests/procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in keyboarding (65 wpm minimum).
  • Able to do some dicta typing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English grammar, with excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational skills in order to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with health care team.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory performance and attendance required
