Pharmacy Technician (192520)

We are currently recruiting for a Regular Full-Time Pharmacy Technician for our Pharmacy Department at the Bayview location.

Summary of Duties:

We currently have a regular full- time position for a Pharmacy Technician that is currently licensed or eligible for licensure with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. The Pharmacy Technician duties would be split between the Best Possible Medication History (BPMH) Program in Emergency and Acute Care units within the Hospital AND the Ambulatory Patient Pharmacy (APP).

As part of the BPMH Program, the technician will be expected to complete and document Best Possible Medication Histories (BPMHs) on patients in Emergency and Acute Care units within the Hospital. This will require the technician to complete the eBPMH module posted on the Sunnybrook LMS and become ‘certified’ to complete an accurate medication history. Motivation, flexibility, organizational skills and the ability and willingness to engage with patients will be important.

While in APP, key responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician include:

  • Performing functions while meeting standards of accuracy and speed;
  • Filling prescriptions using automation and workflow management software (Symphony/Innovations);
  • Compounding mixtures and other necessary medications;
  • Completing necessary mathematical calculations;
  • Ensuring accuracy in cash register transactions;
  • Preparation of daily cash reconciliation;
  • Preparing orders for delivery;
  • Inventory management;
  • Ordering and receiving medications and supplies.

The successful applicant will be expected to work Monday to Friday with weekend day(s) on a rotational basis.


  • Current licensure by the Ontario college of Pharmacists or eligibility for licensure
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment

  • Detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
  • Self-motivated to succeed and able to take initiative
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Proficient in computer and data entry skills
  • Customer service skills and an empathetic manner
  • Knowledge of retail pharmacy computer system strongly preferred (Kroll)
  • Knowledge of third party billing preferred
