Postdoctoral Fellow in Deep Learning applied to Digital Pathology

The medical image analysis research group, led by Dr Anne Martel, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on the development of deep learning methods for medical image analysis in general and digital pathology in particular. The successful applicant will work on an exciting project to generate prognostic models of breast cancer recurrence based on the analysis of whole slide histopathology images. This is a collaborative project with the Ontario Institute of Cancer Research. The application of deep learning to medical image analysis is a rapidly growing area of research and the successful applicant will be expected to develop novel techniques to address the unique challenges posed by digital pathology whole slide images. Applicants should have a strong interest in deep learning in general, and in one or more of the following areas: unsupervised learning, integration of multimodality data, interpretable machine learning multitask learning, multiple instance learning, precision medicine.

Required qualifications:

  • Doctorate in a relevant discipline obtained within the last five years.
  • Proven publication record in machine learning research.
  • Programming experience in one or more of Python, R, C++
  • Experience with TensorFlow and/or PyTorch is an advantage
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.

Research Environment

The Martel group is located in the Image Processing Lab at Sunnybrook Research Institute. Research interests include the development of computer aided diagnosis tools for breast MRI, digital pathology, and integration of radiomics/pathomics/genomics. The post-doctoral fellow will be working with faculty and graduate students in the Department of Medical Biophysics and will be expected to participate in the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students in the lab.
