People who have had a lived experience of their own loss are able to offer support to another bereaved family. People who have not had a personal experience of their own loss offer their support as a community volunteer.

Volunteer opportunities

Community Circle of Support Group – Provide in-person peer support to bereaved families who have had any type of loss experience, offered at location in your community.
**Currently offered online due to COVID-19. Online Loss Specific Support Group – Provide peer support online using Zoom to bereaved families who have had your specific type of loss experience. One to One Peer Telephone Support – Provide peer support to parents over the phone Compassionate Care Workshop: Family Panel – An opportunity to speak about your lived experience of loss with health care professionals who attend these workshops Community Outreach and Awareness Volunteer - Assist with PAIL Network with community research, outreach and awareness efforts using social media and in person strategies. (This is an independent role supervised by the Volunteer Resource and Support Coordinator. This role also requires participation in a monthly online 30-minute community volunteer meeting). Local Community Event Volunteer - Assist with event-day facilitation, and/or planning and implementing awareness and memorial events within your community.

While many volunteers would like to be matched to specific areas, some volunteer areas have less need than others and we cannot guarantee accommodating everyone’s first choice. PAIL Network at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre reserves the right to release a volunteer from his/her volunteer position if, in the opinion of PAIL Network, continuance of the volunteer role could cause detriment to PAIL Network or to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
