Laparotomy surgery

Overview

A laparotomy is when surgery takes place through an incision (cut) in your abdomen. A midline (vertical) incision is often made. The incision extends from the pubic bone up to at least the belly button or higher. This booklet will give you information on what to expect from your surgery and during your recovery in hospital and at home.
