Alzheimer's disease

Definition

A progressive, degenerative disease of the brain, which destroys brain cells, and causes thinking, memory and behaviour to become seriously impaired.

It is the most common form of dementia. It has no cure, though great strides have been made in treatments for symptoms. Named for German physician Alois Alzheimer, who first described it in 1906.
