Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research reaches $500K

August 25, 2016

On Aug. 20, Tragically Hip fans gathered to watch the live broadcast of the band’s show in Kingston, Ontario. At Sunnybrook, we have heard from Canadians across the country, in the United States and around the world who organized events to watch the show and collect donations for Sunnybrook’s brain cancer research.

As of Sept. 7, $533,000 has been raised through sunnybrook.ca/gord and third-party events, and that number continues to grow as event organizers and Canadians continue to send in their donations.

In addition, we have heard from several corporations who have expressed their interest in supporting the fund. To all those who have donated online and supported the fund with event donations and in other ways, we are deeply grateful.

Donations to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research will give Sunnybrook the tools to help beat brain cancers that are currently unbeatable. Right now we're investigating new drugs, surgical techniques and genetic therapies. We're using ultrasound to help drugs reach tumours that couldn't be reached before. Your support will help us conduct ground-breaking research that benefits patients not only at Sunnybrook, but across Canada and around the world. You can learn more about Sunnybrook’s brain cancer research at sunnybrook.ca/braincancer.
