Sunnybrook donates 32 incubators to Thrive Project Zimbabwe

June 26, 2019

Thirty two incubators from Sunnybrook’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are about to take an exciting journey.

The hospital has donated the incubators to Thrive Project Zimbabwe, a non-profit organization that works with hospitals in the southern African country.

Sunnybrook is replacing incubators in our NICU, and Thrive Project Zimbabwe is the perfect recipient for the old.

Health care in Zimbabwe is described as “dire.” Hospitals often lack basic medical supplies like gloves.

Currently there are three babies per incubator in Zimbabwe. Sunnybrook’s donation aims to help improve outcomes for babies born sick or prematurely.

On Wednesday, June 19, there was a "packing party." Volunteers came together to build crates to ship the incubators. The crates were stuffed with donated medical supplies and baby clothes.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
