COVID-19 outbreak information

November 29, 2020

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared in one of our care units after the identification of seven in-patient cases.

An initial case that was identified through regular surveillance triggered broader testing on the unit that identified six additional cases. At the present time, all patients are asymptomatic.

To limit further spread, the affected unit is closed to new patient admissions at the present time. Visitors are also restricted from entering the unit. All outbreak control measures are in place on the unit, including increased surveillance, testing and enhanced cleaning measures.

When two or more patients who are being cared for in a health-care facility for something other than COVID-19 test positive for the illness, it meets the definition of an outbreak as set out by public health.

Sunnybrook remains open, and clinics and procedures will continue as usual. The hospital is safe for patients and approved visitors/essential care partners.
