Sunnybrook launches new interactive digital map for Bayview Campus

September 26, 2022

A new wayfinding tool has been launched at Sunnybrook’s Bayview Campus.

The interactive digital map provides users with step-by-step directions inside hospital buildings, and within the campus grounds, right through their mobile phone, computer or tablet.

Looking for the blood clinic? Tim Hortons? The pharmacy? Simply type in the room number, clinic or service you are looking for in the map’s search bar, and generate turn-by-turn directions guiding you to your destination.

Over the past several months, the map has been piloted by our team of Courtesy Services volunteers, who have used it to help patients, visitors and families find their way.

MaryAnn has been a volunteer with the hospital for 17 years, and she knows all too well how difficult it can be to navigate through the large campus.

“Walking through the hospital can be overwhelming, and there are some places that may even be close by but can be hard to find,” she says.

Although MaryAnn is a wayfinding expert, she notes that the map is still a helpful tool for both those familiar with the hospital, and those who are not.

“It’s a very useful tool to learn the layout of the hospital,” she says. “I would certainly use it to figure out where I needed to go if I was unfamiliar with the location. I find it helpful even now.”

The map can be accessed on Sunnybrook’s website at sunnybrook.ca/map. Patients and visitors can also access wayfinding services by visiting a Courtesy Services volunteer stationed around the hospital.
