Lieutenant Governor and veterans Lieutenant Governor and Sunnybrook President Lieutenant Governor receives first poppy Sunnybrook veteran and Lieutenant Governor

Today, at a special ceremony in Warrior’s Hall at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, the Royal Canadian Legion presented the first poppy of Ontario to the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

Sunnybrook President & CEO Dr. Andy Smith and Sunnybrook veteran Bill Gordon assisted in the ceremony with RCL Ontario Command President Sharon McKeown. Soon, more and more bright red poppies will be seen as tomorrow marks the official start of the Legion’s two-week Poppy Campaign.

Legion Remembrance programs commemorate the men and women who died in the military service of Canada during war and peace. Maintaining the tradition of Remembrance is a sacred trust and the Legion's most important role. The Poppy has been widely recognized as a symbol of Remembrance, since it was first adopted in 1921. By wearing the poppy, we demonstrate our gratitude to those who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy.
