Why is the research study being done?

If preclinical studies indicate that a treatment (e.g., investigational drug, device or natural health product) is useful and safe in animals, then the treatment developer (e.g., pharmaceutical company, biotech company, university, etc.) asks Health Canada for permission to conduct a clinical trial to test the treatment in people.

Studies may also be done to gather information about a certain group of people or patients, their medical conditions, medical care, family support or feelings.
