Congratulations to Dr. Sandra Black, internationally renowned cognitive and stroke neurologist, and inaugural scientific director of the Dr. Sandra Black Centre for Brain Resilience and Recovery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, who has been awarded this year’s Margolese National Brain Disorders Prize from the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Since 2011, the Margolese National Brain Disorders Prize has been awarded yearly to a physician or scientist who has made outstanding contributions to the treatment, amelioration, or cure of brain disorders.

The prestigious prize, which comes with a $50,000 award, recognizes Dr. Black’s scientific accomplishments and potential to make further contributions in her field.

“I am humbled and quite touched by this honour,” says Dr. Black. “Thank you to UBC and to my colleagues for their continued support.”

She is a leader in her field, with more than 600 publications and has received numerous accolades including being named to the Order of Ontario in 2011 and being appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2015.

Dr. Black joins past awardee Dr. Kullervo Hynynen, Sunnybrook’s Vice President of Research, in receiving the honour.
