Congratulations Dr. Nir Lipsman, neurosurgeon, scientist, and director of Sunnybrook’s Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation, who has been named a recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40® for 2020.

The award recognizes the “exceptional achievements of 40 outstanding Canadians under the age of 40 chosen on four key criteria: Vision & Innovation; Leadership; Impact & Influence; and Social Responsibility” and was announced today in the National Post and BNN Bloomberg. Dr. Lipsman and other award recipients have been selected from over 900 nominees across the country.

He has been at the forefront of world-leading clinical applications of MRI-guided focused ultrasound in essential tremor, and in the launch of clinical trials of focused ultrasound including Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s disease, major depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In addition, Dr. Lipsman has lead historic clinical trials investigating deep brain stimulation for treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder.
