Clinical expertise & research interest:

Dr. Anne Berndl is the innovator and director of the Accessible Care Pregnancy Clinic, the first of its kind in North America to provide pregnancy and birth care to people with physical disabilities.

Dr. Berndl focuses on providing pregnancy care for people with physical disabilities using an innovative, multipronged approach and advancing person-centered, condition-specific research in the field of physical disability and pregnancy. She is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto, a maternal-fetal-medicine specialist at Sunnybrook Hospital and an associate scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute.

She chaired the Spina Bifida Associations Women’s Health Guideline in 2020 , and was the lead author on the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada National Guidelines on Labour, Delivery and Postpartum Care for People with Physical Disabilities.

She is frequently invited to speak nationally and internationally to discuss her patient-centered, interdisciplinary model of care, which has also been featured in national media, including CBC and Global News.
