Research Summary:

Dr. Leis’ research is focused on the iterative development of new sustainable models of care with potential to improve patient outcomes related to infectious diseases while using fewer health care resources. Examples include the use of a medical directive for nurse-initiated urinary catheter removal, changing the way urine cultures are ordered and processed to minimize detection and treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria, and validation of hand hygiene measurement through electronic surveillance.
