Spotlight on
Dr. Dennis Ko
Dr. Dennis Ko is a scientist in evaluative clinical sciences at Sunnybrook Research Institute and an interventional cardiologist. His research focuses on cardiovascular outcomes, particularly the appropriateness of invasive and costly procedures such as cardiac catheterizations and through-the-skin coronary interventions. In a 2008 study looking at regional variation in cardiac catheterizations after a heart attack, Ko found in areas where invasive procedures are common, physicians do not differentiate procedure selection based on the patients' appropriateness or baseline risks. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario recently awarded Ko $107,088 over three years for research into improving the assessment and treatment of severe aortic stenosis.
